The center of the storm is called the eye.
The eye is the focal point of the hurricane, the point around which the rest of the storm rotates and where the lowest surface pressure is found in the storm.
The sky is often clear above the eye and the wind is relatively light. In fact, it's the calmest part of any hurricane.
The eye is so calm because the now strong surface winds converging towards the center never reach it. The Coriolis force deflects the wind slightly away from the center, causing the wind to rotate around the center of the hurricane (the eye wall) leaving the exact center (the eye) calm.
YOU can also be in the eye of the storm. YOU can be in the eye of the storm, find your center of stillness, find the calm within you and thus only be touched very peripherally by all that is around you. YOU can be at the center of a world in which there is chaos, uncertainty and confusion. How to find your center of stillness? Treat yourself to a few minutes of silence every day - contemplation, meditation, music, painting... something to quiet your mind. Something where you feel you just "are", not "do". Human-being, not human-doing as it were. Experience yourself as just being for a few minutes every day and you'll discover a place in you that can resemble the calm in the eye of a storm. As you practice it, you will become stronger and no longer be so available to all the chaos that is around you in everyday life. You will be able to access your place of calm even if there is a storm around you. You won't get swept off your feet so quickly and you'll also be a great help to others who may be in the middle of the storm. A few minutes every day can change the quality of the rest of your day.
